MELT AWAY THE ICE BY ERIC THOMAS

In the words of ice queened icon Elsa “The cold never bothered me anyway.” But with Katie Eary’s new collection for Autumn/Winter 2014, things are definitely about to heat up, whether you were already frozen or not. Abstract psycho portraits and deformed mickey mouse silhouettes leads the British designers ready-to-wear collection. The line combines a palette of black, red, orange and green across motif and pattern printed pieces. A selection of “psycho” portraits arranged in a cut-and-stick style leads the way for this collection as they form eerie abstract images.

The photographic features overlay shirts and sweatpants as well as slim-cut pants. London based Eary’s A/W14 collection looked to the punks of 1970’s Britain for inspiration, which would explain the use of red leopard prints and a twisted take on pop culture icons. While many designers are playing it safe, Eary takes no prisoners, throwing intense and dramatic garments into the winter solstice leaving us scorched.
